Epidemiologic Characteristics of the Ovarian Cancer in Korea

Abstract

|
|
Objective; The main purpose of the study is to reveal the epidemiologic characteristics of ovarian cancer incidence and mortality in Korea. We analyzed incidence and mortality data about ovarian cancer cases. Data Sources: The incidence data came from the Korean cancer register compiled by major teaching hospitals. We focused on the data for the years between 1992-1997. The mortality data came from the National Vital Registration Statistics. We focused on the data for the period between 1983-1998. Methods and Results: we examined incidence and mortality trend. The SIR of ovarian cancer is changed from 0.82 in 1992 to 1.25 in 1997. The SMR is changed from 0.13 in 1983 to 1.12 in 1998. Conclusion: The incidence and mortality rate of ovarian cancer are steadily increasing.
